In this 1960s television commercial, Arnold Palmer tees off, plays bunker shots, putts out and ... lights up a cigarette. Yep, that's right, because nothing goes with walking 18 holes of golf in the middle of the summer like a pack of smokes.
According to the spot, Arnie's a "man who really likes to smoke. And what he likes is L&M; he's been smoking them for years." Yeah, I don't see Tiger Woods endorsing L&M anytime soon, primarily because cigarette commercials were outlawed back in the '70s and also because I'm pretty sure Eldrick doesn't smoke.
In retrospect, it's amazing to think that cigarettes were so socially acceptable 40-something years ago that nobody thought twice about Palmer doing the ad. This makes me think John Daly was born a half-century too late.
