You know how you become the best golf instructor on the planet? Only work with players who win. It's a lot harder than it sounds, but something Butch Harmon has made a nice living doing. Actually, that's not true (not even close), but a sentiment might Tiger Woods endorse (up to the point when the two parted ways); Harmon is willing to work with just about anybody, but now that he's 65, (relatively) newly married, and has chronic back issues, he's looking to pare down his client list:
Among those Harmon will no longer see are veterans Steve Flesch, Ben Crane, Arron Oberholser and José Maria Olazábal, plus a number of LPGA players. "All the wear and tear has taken its toll on me," Harmon told Golf World. ...Harmon will no longer work with Steve Flesch, Ben Crane, Arron Oberholser and José Maria Olazábal, and a number of LPGA players. Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott and Natalie Gulbis all made the cut.
At Augusta National in April, he had eight players in the Masters field but struggled with the workload because his lower vertebrae were bothering him.
Good for them, bad for John Daly. I guess this officially signals the end of his non-Hooters Tour golf career. Because he really did want to turn things around between benders.
