Tiger Woods Makes Case for His Tourney Staying at Congressional

This seems like as good a time as any to update everybody on the latest Tiger Woods news; I mean, usually, FanHouse doesn't go more than three hours without a post on the world's dreamiest golfer.

In any event, Tiger, recovering from season-ending knee surgery, has gone from PGA Tour beater to ambassador. Yesterday, he spent his evening trying to convince the 350 or so members of Congressional Country Club, that his tournament, the AT & T National, should remain at the course from 2012-2017.
According to a source who attended the two-hour meeting, Woods spoke to the members in the club's packed ballroom for about five minutes, and also answered members' questions. He talked about his vision for the tournament and emphasized how much respect he and his fellow players have for the golf course. During a question-and-answer session, he also told the members his surgically repaired left knee is coming along nicely. He walked without crutches or a cane, though he did hobble slightly.
No cane? Honestly? Weird.

Whatever, a few weeks ago, there was some concern that Tiger's tourney could be homeless after 2009; Congressional has plans to use 2010 to renovate the course in preparation for the 2011 U.S. Open and after that, who knows.

But if anybody can convince a bunch rich country club members what to do with their course, I suspect Tiger Woods is the guy. Ultimately, the members will have to vote on the proposal, and we'll know something by Labor Day. Can't wait.
