"Glory's Last Shot" is upon us, and with He Who Should Not Be Named out for the second consecutive major, we in the golf world have to type and make up things as we pick "favorites" when we really have just as good an idea of who will win as you.If that doesn't entice you, this might -- only one golfer not named Tiger Woods in the top 10 of the Official World Ranking has won a major championship since the Masters in 2006. Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Geoff Ogilvy, Stewart Cink, Steve Stricker and Adam Scott have all gone a very long time without winning a major (if ever) and it seems these top-10 golfers might be due.
Here are my favorites, their best finish in a PGA Championship, and why they made the list.
- Phil Mickelson -- WON -- My least favorite person ever to pick in majors, but he did play good for three rounds (or four if you ask him) last week and had himself in a extremely good position even with a balky putter and his obviously struggle with
weightchoking. If he can somehow find a way to hit the fairway this week, he'll be near the top come Sunday (and on cue probably find a way to drop the ball in dramatic fashion).
- Anthony Kim -- t-50 -- He's only played in one PGA Championship and made the cut, but his finish wasn't exactly what you'd expect from the young phenom. My homerism aside, that was during his drinking days, and right now he's one of the top two hottest golfers on tour, with three top-10s (and a win) in his last four tournaments. Long and straight sure does look good when planning your attack on Oakland Hills.
- Zach Johnson -- t-17 -- What was that, brilliant commenter? Picking Johnson is exactly the opposite of my last sentence about Kim? Ok, thanks, dually noted. 2008 has been a hangover year for Johnson after his Masters win last season, but his second best finish of the season was at the Bridgestone and he won at Augusta, where the yardage (7,445) is eerily close to Oakland (7,395). Wedge play will obviously be the key for Mr. White Belt.
- Steve Marino -- DNP -- Yeah, he's rather unknown, has never won on the PGA Tour and hasn't even made a cut in a major, but he's one of those types that could win this thing a la Shaun Micheel or Rich Beem. His third top-5 of the season came at the RBC Canadian Open and he can take it really low if he's putting (126th on tour in putts per round). Also, it's the PGA Championship, so not picking a random to win would be like cheating on a final exam off of Vince Young.
- Lee Westwood -- t-15 -- You have to pick a member of the 2004 European Ryder Cup team that dismantled the Americans at Oakland Hills. Westwood was flawless, finishing 4-0-1 that year, and said on his website that heading back "stirs some good memories." Also, he's playing some good golf right now and is in a perfect position to lose his major championship virginity.

Here's your brilliant commenter Shane.
Faldo said that Sergio better not assume that he's on the Euro Ryder team so I'm going with him playing his balls off and pulling the big(?) upset.
I figure if he has another reason to play for other than to erase the infamous "best to never win a major" title, then maybe some of the pressure comes off?
NAHHHHHH
