If there is one gripe most people would have about Tiger Woods, it's that the man who has such a great opportunity as a famous black athlete normally hits the mute button at any sign of controversy. Honestly, Woods almost goes out of his way to avoid ruffling any feathers, which makes the following all the more important.
Woods, who has stayed quiet on any questions centering around the presidential contest, told some reporters that he was happy with the choice of Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.
"It will be one of the great days in America to see a man of color in the White House."Trust me, it is a big deal if Tiger is speaking about it, and from the lines it appears he was probably more on board with Obama than John McCain. Or it doesn't, I can't really tell and Tiger is probably the best athlete ever at saying just enough to get you thinking but not enough to make you certain.Woods said Obama's victory pleased him and it would have pleased his father, the late Earl Woods, who was a retired Army officer.
"My father hoped he would see a man of color elected president in his lifetime," Woods said. "He didn't see it, but I hoped that I would see it."
While this is a very interesting concept, with Woods on board with Obama, it still doesn't answer the burning questions most golf fans have been asking. WHO DID JOHN DALY ENDORSE?!?!?! I was still surprised not to see him in Denver introducing one of the key speakers at the Democratic National Convention a few months ago. Memo to John -- there are Hooters in Denver. I've actually been to one*.
* = that is a rough calculation, with an accuracy of +/- 36.

clearly Woods isn't afraid of being additionally taxed as some of the rich folk are....they can ALL afford it...this election will be historic in many ways...
Woods says he was pleased. He never says "VERY HAPPY" as your headline suggests.
Unlike you, I don't get the impression in the article that he voted for Obama. He just says he's pleased that "a man of color" is President. Of course he says that - in the historical sense of thing, Woods HAS to be pleased that the racial barrier in the white house has been broken - but for all we know he is NOT PLEASED with the man Obama and disagrees with many of his policies.
Bottom line... to say Woods is "VERY HAPPY" is misleading. You will never know the truth because Woods will never tell (and doesn't need to) his true feelings.
What! The Press misleading?! I can't believe that would ever happen. Isn't the press non-partisan?
Somebody else hits it on the button, when he says about the historical event that what makes Mr. Woods pleased.
I know that he is not looking for a check from Mr. Obama and not looking forward for the tax program.
As someone else points out, he says he is 'pleased', but he continues his sentence, "to see a man of color in the White House."
Tiger has said himself, that he is not a black athlete as the press (as well as majority of everyone else) likes to label him. He is a man with a multi-racial background, part of which happens to be black. Which is why I believe he chooses the term "man of color" because Barack is also a man wtih a multiracial background. That's how he identifies himself and the next President.
What decent person wouldn't be 'pleased' to see a 'man of color' be successful because of dedication and hardwork? Can we stop with the labels? Did Barack win because of his color? Is Tiger the greatest golfer in the world because of his color? These men have both succeeded because they've concentrated on issues besides color.
I'm proud that Tiger doesn't abuse his popularity to push his opinions and beliefs upon the rest of the world anyways. Even though it could has something to do with a comment I read Michael Jordon once made, "Republicans buy shoes, too." Tiger's neutral, silent stance seems more intelligent and better received than say someone like Brian Westbrook openly letting the world know he was voting for Obama because of his color.
Anyways... let's talk about golf.
Barack Obama is not a black man. He's 1/8 African American and his mother is white! He's a white man who looks like a black man, what say to that? He rode the coattails of the ignorant racist black people of America into the White House. Duped the public, which is pretty easy these days as stupid as most people are! What a neat guy, huh!
I wish people would stop making Obama's race the most important aspect of him becoming president... How about I'm happy that he won because I think he will be a president who is eager to turn our nation around...
You BOZOS really crack me up! No matter what Tiger might say he is a BLACK man period. His dad is full blooded 100% African American......in this country that makes him a black man. I'm sorry if that is painful for you to accept.... grow up!.....and get over it! He voted for President Obama because this incredible leader has the right vision for America. You would like to mince his words to suggest that he voted for McCain......sorry, nice try. President Obama is a BLACK man, his ancestry dictates that in this country. Please let us not forget that this countries forefathers made the determination that if you had 1/5 of African blood in you, by those standards you were considered black. I feel that Barack Obama is the President of the United States who happens to be black. The majority of America voted for him because of the issues and his policies that we feel will lead this country in the right direction. He did not get elected because of his race. Don't be so cynical as to deny African Americans their TRUE heritage particularly when they have reached such a historical pinnacle. We have a black man who is the greatest golfer in the world and another black man who is the President of the United States of America. Every TRUE American should feel a sense of pride and patriotism.
