Woods' caddie, Steve Williams, has used the time off to return to his native New Zealand, race some cars (he owns a team), spend time with his family, and raise money for charity. And it was at a recent charity event that the sometimes surly Williams gave arguably the best golf-related interview not involving John Daly in the 500-year history of the sport.
Speaking with the Taranaki Daily News' Murray Hills, Williams shared this gem:
It's also a well-known fact that Woods and American Phil "Mr Nice Guy" Mickelson are not the best of buddies. Williams told a story of Woods and Mickelson paired together during the US Open. The pair were duelling for the lead in the third round. Tiger waved to a packed grandstand seating 5000 people that bordered the 17th fairway. The crowd responded. To be fair, they're not even that nice. Still, it's quite possibly the funniest story I've heard today. The thing is, Philbert claimed he lost 20 pounds leading up to the event. I can't imagine the catcalls if he showed up looking more buxom. Maybe next year, the USGA will see fit to pair Lefty with Colin Montgomerie.
As a hush fell back over the crowd, a fan yelled out "Phil." No response from Mickelson. Again the fan yelled out "Phil." Again no response. The fan changed tack. "Hey, Mr Mickelson."
When Mickelson turned and waved, the fan yelled out "Nice t*ts." The crowd erupted in laughter; Mickelson went double bogey, bogey and his tournament was over.
Williams also added this: "I wouldn't call Mickelson a great player ... 'cause I hate the pr*ck." Which goes a long way in explaining why he told the story about Mickelson's ample rack.
And while we're all having fun at Phil's expense, here's a question: what does Tiger think of all this? Didn't Camp Tiger fire Fluff Cowan for getting too comfortable with the media? I get the sense that Eldrick is closer to Williams than he was to Fluff -- and relies on him more -- and he might give Stevie more leeway as a result. That said, Woods has never been big on drawing attention to himself when it wasn't about golf.

Stevie had better watch his mouth....he may have become a little too careless about stories surrounding The Man..
You are correct, Fluff Cowan was unceremoniously dumped by The Man when Fluff told the press too much inside stuff. Fluff made out ok looping for Jim Furyk but lost millions by being fired.
By the way, I have it on good authoruty: Phil is a 38 C.

That's it, golf doesn't exist anymore.
I've hated Tiger from the start, because he got it too good-- IMG has had him since he was 11 years old. Teeth fixed and all the balls he could whack, travel, all payed for.
The USGA and tennis federations don't have any REAL programs, but just pimp on already established fortunate kids.
I hand it to Earl Woods for grooming Tiger and having the savvy to get him pimped out to IMG.
There's a reason big Steve is being an asshole, and it's because he's gone, nixed already. Half of Tiger's Buick endorsement money was Steve's salary, but that gig is up now, and Tiger refused to go 18% of winnings for Steve. And Tiger is steaming about Steve hanging with high-end hookers and bringing those whores to charity clinics Tiger holds.

Steve has rode the gravy train to long. Not sure how he hooked up with Tiger but to carry Tiger's golf bag is a privilege. No matter how Tiger got there his talent has been proven. To watch THE MAN every time he hits the ball would be awesome. For what Steve gets paid he needs to keep his mouth shut and appreciate what he is getting out of this and how hard a lot of people are working to get half of what he has gotten.

This story typifies the kind of ignorant, egotistical, loadmouthed oafs that permeate Tiger Wood's audiences in the USA. Their own loud mouths sound great only to them, not to the rest of us. They give golf audiences a black eye.

Stevie should be a good caddy and be seen and not heard. It's not rocket science, everyone knows that anybody capable of packin Woods bag would make money. If they were allowed to use carts Tiger wouldn't need a caddy anyway.

I agree with you. This guy should zip up his mouth. As far as I have seen,Phil has a much warmer personality than Tiger does. I love Phil and have respect for Tiger. If Tiger cares for the dignity of golf game, he should fire Williams.

Paskulo your the man, well said. That being said Eldrick needs to fire Steve immediately. That is terrible for the game of golf. In fact if Eldrick doesn't fire him, I no longer will watch him.

WILLIAMS HAS ALWAY'S BEEN A JERK...BREAKING CAMERA'S AND ACTING LIKE SOME KIND OF ENFORCER BY YELLING AT PAYING CUSTOMERS AND FAN'S. HE SHOULD STOP LOOKING AT PHIL'S ANATOMY AND PAY ATTENTION TO A REAL CLASS CADDY..THE ONE ON PHIL'S BAG.

It seems Steve Williams has gained a tremendous amount of confidence carrying around a golf bag. He should consider himself very lucky. He has made a nice living walking with Greg Norman and Tiger Woods.

I agree Williams and Woods need to keep their mouths shut! I have watched Phil for a very long time(being old enough to be his mother) and he always appears to be a good sport and a very polite individual. He doesn't swear on public TV unlike other golfers seem to do and is a very loving family man. I have the highest regard for Phil and his family. Every mother would be proud to have a son like Phil Mikelson!!!!!!!
