Yesterday I mentioned that Tiger Woods' caddie, Steve Williams, thinks Phil Mickelson is a wanker, and I wondered how that would go over with the world's No. 1 golfer. Eldrick canned caddie Fluff Cowan nearly a decade ago after Cowan got too cozy with the media.
Williams calling one of Woods' biggest rivals a "pr*ck" is infinitely higher profile than anything Cowan ever did, but Stevie doesn't seem too worried about it.
"I don't particularly like the guy myself," he said of Mickelson. "He pays me no respect at all and hence I don't pay him any respect. It's no secret we don't get along either."Okay, we get it, Steve, you hate Lefty. Also, Williams offered a clarification to the story he told about Mickelson's man boobs: it happened at Bethpage in 2002, not at Torrey Pines last summer. So the diet worked after all.
Williams is an infamously brusque individual who once threw a spectator's camera into a pond. But, even by his standards, this was an astonishing thing to say.
Since scoring a job as Woods' bagman, he has been careful not to create any controversy, partly because Woods sacked his predecessor for his outspokeness. Williams doubted Woods would react to his comments.
"He knows the media," he said. "You make a comment and they blow it all out of proportion and it's no big deal."
The Sunday Star Times' (New Zealand) Greg Ford writes that "It's not known how Woods and Mickelson will react. But it's safe to assume Mickelson will not appreciate having it aired in public by Woods' bag carrier." You think? You mean Philbert's boobs won't jiggle uncontrollably as he chortles as the news about his nice rack? Weird.
Honestly, it'll be interesting to see how Woods deals with this. He almost certainly won't address the story publicly, but I suspect he'll ask Williams to do a little more showing up/keeping up/shutting up, and a lot less gum-flapping.

Phil is a great person. I have followed him at several events. He is always friendly and stays around after most players have left to sign autographs. He also spends alot of his time and money supporting charities. He is a class act. So is Tiger. That is more then I can say about Williams and Wilson.
Everybody knows that Tiger has done more for golf than anyone else. I am only interested when Tiger is playing. But Williams is a jerk and I will apologize for him because he knows no better. Phil does not deserve any comments like that and I will think less of Tiger if he doesn't make him apologize to Phil. Just because he gets big bucks for being caddie to Tiger doesn't mean he has the right to mouth off. It really shows his class, right!!!
I agree with you Carol about Woods making Wiliams publicly apologize or he too should get the axe. Williams forgot to mention how little (if any) time Woods spends with fans signing and the countless hours Mickelson spends signing autographs for his fans. Phil is a class act who appreciates his fans. Both of these guys do incredible charity work and neither of them should have to put up with the flak that Williams has now caused. Have him apologize or fire him Tiger!
This shows just how much class little Stevie has (none). I guess we will see how much class Tiger has.
If an average guy heard comment like this he might do something about it like a few more pushups or some more attention to the pecs in the weight room. Phil Mickelson is not an average guy. He has been one of the top golfers in the world for a long time and therefore one of the top ATHLETES in the world. I am a professional golfer and have always been mindful keeping my upper body loose and flexible.
I was thinking about other great athletes and a couple came to mind: Boxers George Foreman and Jimmy Ellis. Wonder how many idiots told them that they had 'nice t*ts'?
Stevie is a wanna be thug. He is a glorified bag carrier; and due to tiger a rich one. Then again I know a lot of drug dealers who are rich; once a thug always a thug.
Steve William has been and always will be an ass-hole. I caddied for a pro golfer and we were paried with Tiger at Jack tournament a few years back and Steve Williams treated everyone around him like dirt. TIGER FIRE THE ASS HOLE!!!!!
