Tuesday's FBR Open dinner -- a formal affair for around 700 people -- was cut short after an acrobat who was performing stunts involving chains fell from the rafters and died. With the economy in shambles and the PGA Tour quietly struggling to keep certain sponsors, some of the more elaborate events are kept quiet, so as not to flash wealth in the public face. It certainly can't help matters when just before the first tournament featuring one of the Big Two, a performer (not pictured) dies while providing entertainment.
The man was performing an acrobatic stunt involving chains in front of hundreds of people. As he was unraveling the chains, he fell from the rafters onto the ground. Witnesses said he fell on his head. The report from ABC15 said that doctors performed CPR on the performer for 15 minutes after the accident. The acrobat, San Diego resident Jose Angel Vera, 33, was from Aerial Artistry, a five-person team, and has been performing for 16 years.
A server explained that the ground is asphalt and that there were no supports or safety nets.
As you might expect, the FBR (which stands for "Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Inc.") Open dinner was cut short after this occurred. Appetizers and clinking champagne glasses just doesn't seem fitting when a man paid to entertain you isn't breathing anymore.

ouch
R.I.P.
As much as I dislike the culture of golf, I hope the PGA isn't one of the entities sued for this.
FORE LEFT STAGE
i'll play the lie, please.
What happened was bad, like the above comments.
PGA tour, bunch of rich kids, and us like buffoons sponser them. What has this done except drive up green fees, equipment and still nobody watches them on TV.
These "rich kids" are taking the blessing of financial security and doing something with it that involves discipline, practice, commitment, and skill. Something other kids could learn from, "rich" or not. Money can do a lot for a person, but it can not make one get off the sofa, turn off the TV or video games and pursue a constructive and worthy sport. That takes effort and character- something money can not buy!
However, this is not about golf- this is about a young man tragically losing his life!!! How do you think his family will feel if they see these comments? My prayers are for his loved ones and for his co-workers.
Talk about needing a divot tool. Whew!
Frankie Avalon is a trapeze artist now.....
He does it without Annette.
dad always said the links will kill you.
hey, i paid for those appetizers and champagne, sorry if clinking the glasses makes noise but i came for dinner and i'm hungry. too bad for the acrobat but i didn't ask him to go up there and besides if i want to watch someone take a dive i can watch kimbo slice and john mccain anytime.
much love to this guys family.sometimes it is tragic to try to become the greatest but nothing ventured nothing gained.
Fell to his death-for the PGA hmmm, time for Tea and Sympathy!
"Hey, look! I'm Payne Stew.."
Some people have no heart....Prayers go out to the Family....and R.I.P to the Performer.
Wow - I'm shocked at the callous attitudes and comments on here. I'm proud of them for ending the evening after the death instead of going on as if nothing had happened the way the monster truck show did when the little boy was killed. My heart goes out to the family and friends, and also to those of you who are so pathetically lacking in any concern for someone other than yourself. You truly are disturbed.
SO SO SORRY for the families, both man's family and FBR. My condolences to both. Also to the PGA, who had to witness this tradgety. I enjoy watching golf on tv. To those who commented on the negitive "SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!" :-( Get a life and stop being so negitive.
Some of these coments are as vugar as the asshoes coments! SLEEZY NO CLASS TRASH!
Silence.
