Experiencing the FBR Open, Arizona Slumdog Style

This weekend, FanHouse is out at the FBR Open, a tournament known more for its party atmosphere than its golf.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Everyone should do it once in their lives, just because it makes you realize that all golf tournaments aren't elderly visors and obedient-to-the-"Quiet"-sign spectators. It is the FBR Open, a tournament that brought in more than 500,000 people in 2008, and it brings just about every respectable college kid within 200 miles of Phoenix out for the Saturday party.

It isn't golf, it is golf with salt and a lime. You go, you drink, you laugh, you party, and occasionally, as you'll see with the photos after the jump, you nap.

The FBR Open: Where failing livers meet lightning-quick greens.

Sure, Big John Daly wasn't in the field, but it didn't stop some fans from supporting their hero.

Pimento-cheese sandwiches? Yuck. Here, you might as well prepare yourself like it is the Super Bowl. Beer, fries, hot dog for a modest $13.

These guys might have possibly spent a little more than $13 on Saturday.

While you might argue that less than two percent of the people at the tournament actually care about golf, a lot of the females care about Camilo Villegas. The Colombian hero was hitting range balls after his round to a pretty packed house on the driving range.

The Kentucky Derby has nothing on this.

Neither does a NASCAR event.

This is actually a friend of mine, doing his part to help the staff out. That is the 10th hole, and he is making sure that everyone has a solid lie. (Play had obviously come and gone on this hole by the time he decided to do this. No, he didn't get arrested. No, he didn't get in trouble. Yes, I chuckled.)

The stands on 16. See, I was there.

And somewhere, in between all of this, there was a golf tournament.
