She is 19 years old. I think that is a point that needs to be driven home before you totally take in the breath that is Michelle Wie. She's 19 and has lived a professional athlete's life since she was 13. The ups and downs have been well documented by, well, just about everyone that follows sports, and it seems, for now, Wie is exactly where she needs to be.On Thursday, Wie teed it up in her first LPGA tournament as a full-time member, and "disappoint" was as far from thought as one of her booming drives is from the tee. A six-under 66, with eight birdies, has Wie t-2, one shot back of Angela Stanford at the SBS Open in Hawaii.
The start is something different for Wie, who hasn't carded a top-10 on the LPGA since '06. She played in 14 tournaments over the last two years without anything to show for it, but after deciding to take her chances in LPGA Qualifying School, Wie came out with a full-time card and is putting it to good use thus far.
You can follow Wie's round right here for her Friday round.
