Accenture Match Play Final: Geoff Ogilvy Faces Paul Casey

It might not have been Tiger Woods against Phil Mickelson. Heck, it isn't even Ernie Els playing Vijay Singh, but the two professional golfers playing the best right now will face up against each other Sunday exactly 125 miles away from their home course.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy, who won this tournament in 2006 and was runner-up in '07, will take on Englishman Paul Casey in a 36 hole final to see who can claim title of Best Golfer During Tiger Week.

That, of course, is a joke. The golf world, including NBC (who felt the need to highlight Tiger even though he lost in the second round), has been so hung up on Woods this week (raises hand) that everyone forgot that Ogilvy might be the best golfer in the world right now and Casey loves this format.

Geoff won the Mercedes Championship at the start of the season and hasn't missed a cut in his other three tournaments including a top-20 at the other tournament in Arizona, the FBR Open. This week Ogilvy has taken out Kevin Sutherland, Shingo Katayama, Camilo Villegas, Rory McIlroy and now Stewart Cink to find himself in the finals for the third straight time.

Casey's path hasn't been any easier. The former Arizona State Sun Devil took down Aaron Baddeley, Matthew Goggin, Peter Hanson, Sean O'Hair and fellow countryman Ross Fisher to meet up with the guy he drove down to play practice rounds at Dove Mountain with.

The favorite has to be Ogilvy tomorrow even with Casey's propensity to pile on birdies with the occasional big number (advantage for match play, not so much for stroke). Geoff has putted beautifully all week and is the type of golfer that, when the swing starts grooving, is hard to take down. His round today against Cink ended when Ogilvy went birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie to finish. Casey's was uglier, but he withstood Fisher and could pick up his first ever PGA Tour win if he pulls it out on Sunday.

People are probably disappointed Woods went out so early, but he will be the first to tell you that is the danger of match play. You catch a guy (hello Tim Clark) that is hot on a certain day and it doesn't matter if you're Tiger Woods or Joe Bogeymaker.

Sunday should be pretty good golf, if nothing else, and the thing you are sure to hear is Johnny Miller talk about jumping Chollas. What's more fun than that?
