They say it's a good walk spoiled, but for a certain group of uber-famous people, golf can be a getaway; a place where a nice stroll is happily interrupted by the occasional short iron. Olympic hero turned media stepchild Michael Phelps admitted in a recent New York Times article that he has taken a liking to golf, admitting that the game is a nice place to get away. Phelps recently teed it up with some buddies and shot a respectable 115.
Then there is golf. Phelps played his first 18 holes a few weeks ago. It was great, he said. He was invisible in plain view, with not a fan or a cellphone camera in sight.
With three high school friends, all avid golfers, as his witnesses, Phelps shot a 115. "I told them, Once I pick it up, it's going to be on," he said, laughing.
Not only has Phelps found golf, but some think that his athleticism and ability to pick things up on the fly will allow him to take out any business wanting to chat with the 23-year-old about a sponsorship deal to the links for a little driving for show.
For a guy that has been though so much the last few months, teeing it up for a little rest and relaxation is exactly what he needs. Like I mentioned on Tuesday, Phelps seems to be getting a ton of negative attention for someone so young and we tend to forget that this was the same guy that we fell in love with nine months ago."He can play golf with the C.E.O. of every company in America, probably," Phelp's coach Bob Bowman said. "He can interact with people. I think it's great."

Give the hero a break. Geeez.....most of us who became successful were first of all older than Michael when that picture (which invaded his privacy - the inherent downside of fame) happened, second, were any of us perfect at that age?? and what the heck? the guy can swim....what years of dedication he put into his talent.
All yee who judge are probably having a martini and a cigar, which is worse on the body than a few tokes.
Give Michael a break and recognize a fabulous athlete. His problem is not pot - it is now the fact that he can't move without some tabloid trying to get his friends to rat on him. It's envy and jealousy. Admire the wonderful young man.
(And pot really doesn't make you faster in the pool!)
He is young and has had fame thrust upon him after the Olympics after his incredible feat that he trained for, for years!
Judge not...get in the pool and try to do what he did. Stoned or not!!
He did not do pot obviously at the time he won those medals, so he celebrated after! Good for him. It makes him all the more human. I have a son the same age almost and am putting our shoes into Michael's. We live near Aspen CO. and go to the X-games every year. Do you think those guys aren't whacked? God bless them. Alcohol and tobacco are worse on the body than marijuana, but no big biz runs the pot franchises.
Kudos to Michael. Look at your own pathetic jealous lives...bet you never won a single thing!
