Someone once said about golf that you'd rather be lucky than good. I have absolutely no idea what this means or even how it makes sense, but hey, look at Peter Hanson, making a hole-in-one on the second playoff hole at U.S. Open qualifying to get a spot at Bethpage Black.Lucky dog!
"This game is just so stupid sometimes,'' Hanson said. "Obviously, I am delighted to get through, but to do it like that is unbelievable. We were between clubs on the tee, but I thought that I would go for a full 6-iron and play for the middle of the green. You need a bit of luck with any hole-in-one, and I got my share today."I would have to rank this just a hair above Shigeki Maruyama shooting a 58 at U.S. Open qualifying in 2000 as the most ridiculous story I've ever heard from a person getting into the U.S. Open.
I tried to get through local qualifying a few weeks back and I didn't come remotely close to: A.) Qualifying; B.) Making any hole-in-ones
I am pretty much totally against anyone that does the Happy Gilmore dance when he rides his driver like a bull, but this might be my one exception. Dunk one for an uno, ride your club as long as you'd like. Shoot, I might even buy the drinks.

What a fantastic way to get into a Major. I wonder if there has been any previous recorded instance of a player finishing the playoff by making a hole-in-one like Peter Hanson managed. He seemed to carry that form into the European Open where he held the lead early but then began to fade away.
I think there is a clear buzz and everyone is looking forward to the year’s second Major. it is fantastic to see a golf course being prepared for a Major that gives the golfer a real chance at creating some excitement. Too often, the authorities have tried their best to choke the possibility of low rounds taking away the excitement from competitive golf because you end up watching irritating conservative golf, a hard task in itself, but one that promises no excitement. It is always a welcome sight to see courses set up in a way that allows for a player to think and gets his creative juices flowing. It must give the option for the player to get aggressive and go for glory or play safe. It must be able to get the player pop questions in his head, work out every possible outcome and then leave it to him to be foolish or brave, a thin line which no one really has seen I suspect!

I think it's fantastic he's got a chance to play the beast http://forelinksters.com/course/bethpage_black_farmingdale
Doesn't really matter how he got there, everyone else had some luck in their respective games, he just pulled his out on the playoff hole.
