The U.S. Open was a wash today, literally, but that didn't mean we couldn't have some fantastic photos from the day's action. Here are some of the better ones, provided to us by Getty Images.

Before the rain halted play at Bethpage Black, the talk of the day was Tiger Woods and his growing battle with his rain jacket. After a tee shot on the first hole that sailed miles left, Tiger opted to take the half-jacket off before swinging the club the rest of the day. Woods is currently 1-over through six holes in his first round.

Justin Leonard (above), who played seven holes on Thursday before being called off the course, was even par for the tournament, but had only made one par in his round. Three birdies, three bogeys and a very intimate relationship with his umbrella was what he left Bethpage with.

Jose Manual Lara (above), from Spain, shows exactly why wet rough is so nasty. Water gets between your clubface and the ball, and there is no telling what can happen to your shot.

When the rain started to come, there was no stopping the inevitability of a round cancellation. Could you make a putt on that green?

The crew did everything they could to keep the course playable, but Mother Nature was not having it. Thursday wasn't going to see another golf shot ...

... even if these fans weren't budging. They paid for their Thursday tickets and they wanted to get everything out of it, even if that was just a ruined pair of shoes.

the us open robed over 4 million dollars from fans today by keeping the procedes of ticket sales to round 1 after canceling it, and than telling fans its there "policy" to make there tickets worthless with no refunds or allowances to see the events on another day.
the us open should be boycotted.
I will not give the USGA a another dime after getting screwed today
Hey, this is not "computer golf" ... The Open is intended to be played on Mother Nature's terms. I wouldn't give much for a golfer whose only salutary performances were achieved under conditions he found "comfortable." As for the spectators ... I think they're crazy for being out there even on the best of days. With all that television has done for golf? They're nuts!
I feel the same way about the USGA. I think they're a bunch of elitist snobs who could care less about their supporters. Anyone who willingly goes out to watch the Open given the weather forecast is certifiable. Stay home and watch the few holes played on TV!
Too bad suckers......lmao
