Carolyn Bivens is the LPGA commissioner, which, considering she has to convince the world that women's golf is super-awesome, isn't "easy," per se (although it beats dragging a lunch pail to a steel mill). So, yeah: kind of a tough job. But considering that the LPGA has lost seven (!) tournaments over the past two years, it's not unreasonable to assume that Bivens could be doing better work. Which may explain why, according to a report, that many LPGA players are calling for Bivens' resignation.
Golfweek Magazine reported Monday that key players stated in the letter the LPGA Tour's woe cannot be blamed on a poor economy, and they said the tour should find a new leader to rebuild relationships with longtime sponsors.Currently, all the players are anonymous and there's no real indication as to how serious this call for Bivens' metaphorical head is; however, I've always held fast to one rule. That being: if you are not good at your job, then you probably shouldn't be doing your job. (No, I'm not sure how I'm still writing either.) And right now, it appears -- bad economy be damned -- that Bivens is not good at her job.
People typically end up holding onto their jobs longer, especially in sports (heeeeeelloooo, Joe Morgan) but for the LPGA, this is beyond distressing. If the players are calling for Bivens to retire, she's clearly doing something wrong. And considering that the organization isn't anywhere near the stable lock that the NFL, MLB or PGA (theoretically) are, well, something probably needs to be done. So don't be surprised when you wake up in a few days and Carolyn Bivens is out of a job. Here's to hoping someone tweets about it.

Add one more vote for the ouster of Bivens. I watch the LPGA anytime it's on TV, and enjoy it just as much as the Mens tour. The loss of the Corning Classic, and the likely loss of the Jamie Farr, and the Hawaii tournaments is a clear sign that this lady is not a capable negotiator. The butchering of the Korean TV contract, plus her "edict" that foreign (aka Korean) players SHALL learn English so they can give better interviews -- an ultimatum that was due to flop, are strikes 2 and 3 on her record of "accomplishments". It's hard to conceive that under Mr. Votaw the Tour would be in the position it is in now.
Wonder if Peter Ueberroth is busy these days ?
what needs to be done is to get all those dikes out of there and get some pretty ladies and what about all those asians, who wants to go see all the asians win everything. it will surprise me if the lpga last another yr.
It's hard to take these women seriously when they rely so heavily on their male caddies. If you are the pro, and your caddy is the caddy, why do you need him to confirm that you're lined up properly on a shot?! Be bold, line up your own damn shot!
