Matt Schaub Beans Fan With Tee Shot at Lake Tahoe Celebrity Tournament

No matter the tournament -- major championship, regular PGA Tour stop, Hooters event, or celebrity get-together -- whenever an unsuspecting member of the gallery gets domed, this is always the payout: a "yeah, I'm really sorry about that" from the offending party and something signed, usually the little white spheroid-turned-weapon that put the fan on their back.

So with that in mind it's not surprising that Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub offered this, after learning that he drilled some poor woman named Sally Capehart with a wayward tee shot on the 17th hole at the Lake Tahoe Celebrity Championship: "I'm so sorry. I had no idea I hit somebody."

Fore! Better Duck for Cover

Matt Schaub may want to stick to throwing footballs. The Texans quarterback hit a woman with his tee shot at a Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament Sunday. "I'm so sorry. I had no idea I hit somebody," he told the fan. Click through for more incidents where golf spectators were caught in the crossfire.

Sept. 2008: Anthony Kim injured a spectator when he hit his drive off the unsuspecting fan's head during the third round of the Tour Championship. The man remained in good spirits, despite a big gash and a trip to the hospital.

April 2009: Actor Bill Murray was able to joke around with fan Gail DiMaggio afterward, but it was a scary sight at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am when she was knocked to the ground by one of Murray's tee shots. DiMaggio was taken to the hospital, but she was released the same day.

July 2007: In one of the uglier rounds in his major championship career, Tiger Woods hit a spectator with an errant 2-iron shot from the middle of the fairway. The woman was knocked down by the ball when Tiger sliced it at the British Open.

The inevitable followed:

Schaub autographed a golf ball for Capehart who, according to the AP, "was clearly was in pain for several minutes. She told paramedics she thought she was all right but had some ringing in her ears and went to the hospital as a precaution."

Capehart, who may have suffered a concussion*, said that it was her first golf tournament but that she'd probably attend another "if I don't get hit in the head." Seems fair.

Texans fan and golfer Stephanie Stradley wants to pass along that Schaub usually hits it straight, which indicates to me that this is all David Carr's fault. There is a happy ending to this story, however: Schaub's ball ricocheted off Capehart's head and onto the green and he two-putted for par. Silver linings, people.
