FanHouse is fighting the rain at Greensboro's 2009 Wyndham Championship.GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Once upon a time, Ryan Moore had many sponsors. This is because he was a U.S. Amateur Champion and the golf world had high expectations for him on the PGA Tour. Of course, at the point that "once upon a time" equates to "five years," well, people tend to forget.
And Moore concedes that a certain point he himself forgot what he was doing and that at a certain point, three years into a winless career, he needed to refocus on what was important for his golf career. And that, apparently, meant shedding almost all of his sponsors and concentrating on his golf game.
So, it was with great earnest that FanHouse asked him about whether or not that would change now that he's a winner on the PGA Tour. And, apparently, it could. Maybe. Or whatever. He doesn't seem all that concerned.
"I'm certainly not against sponsorships. I just wanted to get the last three years behind me, kind of get a fresh start and get back to basics and just focus on playing golf," Moore waxed somewhat philosophically following his win at the Wyndham.
And that's the amazing thing about this prodigy-turned-semi-bust-turned-PGA-winner -- you would almost never see a golfer, or anyone for that matter, give up money and free clothing under the auspices of improving their game. But Moore did that.
It took him a while, even after going "clean," to get where he needed in terms of mental and physical health, but he got there. And while it was the last "regular season" tournament of the 2009 year, Moore is a champion. The lack of sponsors doesn't necessarily make it better; it just means that he did it his own way. And luckily for him, there's probably a decent chance he'll be getting some phone calls in the near future anyway.

why can't you get the fed-x cup standings correct on your stats
Z Johnson is in second place and you don't even have him on the list.

I thought I saw Stadler's ball move as he checked his lie before pitching on the last playoff hole. 2 stroke penalty if he didnt replace before he hit...he was already out of it, but if he signed and incorrect scorecard he's DQ'd.

You represent the absolute worst in sports. If his ball moved, he would have said something.... did he improve his lie? obviously not enough... Stadler did not cheat, the networks are overrun by people "who thought they saw the ball move" (literally hundreds email in every week)... was there an advantage? No, then please keep that stuff to yourself and your saturday foursome... and what business is it of yours anyway? did you lose any money?
