Ahh, Andrew Giuliani. Going back to stories of him are like taking the last drag on a beautiful Cuban cigar, taking in all the mystery and letting it out with one pristine blow of the smoke. Giuliani, the son of Rudolph Giuliani, was a former Duke University golfer, but was let go from the team. He sued the team, typically. Now, the man that will be on the Golf Channel's upcoming Big Break is in the hunt at an actual golf event, the Met Open, in New Jersey.
No longer an amateur -- the 23-year-old Giuliani turned pro last January -- he's now chasing the 94th Met Open at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, where Tuesday he shot a three-under-par 68 in the first round to stand one stroke off the lead held by 17-year-old Sam Bernstein of New York's Century. It really is a vast improvement from the kid we knew in college. As FanHouse reported in July of 2008, Giuliani's stroke average while a Blue Devil was 75.75 and he shot as many rounds in the 80s, one, as he did breaking 72.
"I'm just hoping I can come out here (Wednesday) and do well again," said Giuliani, whose ambition is to break onto the PGA Tour via this winter's Qualifying School. "Winning this would be special because of the names on that trophy. Walter Hagen's name is there."
It does appear Andrew has grown up, and his golf game has as well. After his opening round 68, he noted that his game plan is working and he's hitting the ball pretty darn well.
"I'm confident in what I'm doing," Giuliani said. "I had a game plan and I stuck to it. I'm hitting my irons very well and hitting my spots. I'm looking forward to the next couple of days."

Do you have a better picture?
He looks like uncle Fester from the Adams family in a golf cap. Is Lurch his caddie?
