In 2016, barring anything crazy, golf will be in the Olympics for the first time since 1904. With that news, comes some decisions, centered around where the event should be hosted and how it should be handled.
Tiger Woods, asked on Wednesday about the Olympics, said he thinks the events would best be represented on a public golf course.
"I think you would have to have it on a public venue," Woods said. "I don't think you could have it at a country club. I think you'd have to have it at a public venue just because of what the nature of the Olympics is all about."Tiger will be, and I can't believe I'm typing this, 40 years old when those Olympics roll around, young enough to still compete in the games and possibly add a gold medal to his staggering trophy case. With Chicago in the bidding for the '16 Olympics, Tiger suggested the course they are going to be playing the BMW Championship at this week as host for the rings.
"Certainly this golf course [Cog Hill] is stand-alone in public venues here in the Chicago area," Woods said. "I don't know another golf course that could rival this one as far as difficulty, a public course."It sure wouldn't hurt Tiger's feelings to see Cog Hill host the event. His only time playing the event in conjunction with the BMW Championship ended with a victory, after a salty 63 in the final round helped secure the first FedEx Cup title to Tiger.
