Golf keeps wanting to see a final-round tough-guy battle between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson for a tournament title. It gets one and it's halfway around the world. At the World Golf Championship - HSBC in Shanghai, China, Mickelson holds a two shot lead over Woods and fellow American Nick Watney going into Sunday's final round.
Mickelson shot 67 Saturday to go 14-under while both Woods and Watney posted 70s to stand 12 under.
Five Americans make up the top seven spots as Ryan Moore followers (11 under) in fourth, Englishman Lee Westwood, (10) and Anthony Kim and India's Jyoti Rancheria, both 8 under.
Mickelson and Woods are both coming off successful performance in the Presidents Cups last month, leading the American team to victory over the Internationals. Woods was a perfect 5-0 while Mickelson was 4-0-1. The were also together at the Tour Championship, where Mickelson won the tournament while Woods finished second, which was enough to claim the FedEx Cup bonus.
Halfway around the world, they are going at it again.
Despite a 78-man field from 23 countries at this World Golf Championship -- the strongest field ever assembled in Asia -- Woods and Mickelson remain the top attraction.
The year ends with the first World Golf Championship in Asia that counts toward the world ranking
Sergio Garcia is the defending champion, while Mickelson won in 2007.
